Taught by Tim McLaughlin and Charllotte Kwon. A pathway through modern science organized around the study of natural dyes. From the atom and molecular diagrams to the reduction and oxidation of indigo, to acids and bases, and all the way up to the complexity of tannin-mordant dye chemistry.

The Ink Making workshop
An online workshop held through the Maiwa School of Textiles. Student’s make waterproof and water-soluble inks, pigment based inks, iron gall ink, and lake pigments from natural dyes. Students also learn basics of pointed pen (flex) writing, nib maintenance, and are introduced to papers, approaches to penwork, and some thoughts on journalling and creativity.
